Kasdorf: thrilled to wear Maple Leaf

Four members of the MJHL were recently named to suit up for Team West at the CJHL Prospects Games next month in Dauphin: T.J. Constant (OCN), Mitch VanTeeling (Dauphin), Jason Kasdorf (Portage) and Shane Gingera (Winnipeg Saints).

MJHL Web Correspondent Lorelei Leona caught up with three of the players for their thoughts and reactions to being named.

Below is that Q & A

Mitch VanTeeling

1)         You were selected to be a part of Team West during the CJHL Prospects game. What was your reaction when you found out?

Answer: Obviously I was very happy. It’s good to be playing those kinds of games and playing in front of the home crowd will be really nice too.

2) The CJHL Prospects Game was created to showcase the top 40 NHL draft eligible players in the CJHL...does that add any pressure to perform well during the game?

A: No, you just have to go out there and play, and not worry about who’s in the stands. I think that playing in front of the home crowd will be more pressure than anything, for sure.

3) You recently participated for Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge in Penticton...how do you think that has helped prepare you for the Prospects game?

A: The pace of that game was good. I’m assuming it’s going to be a good game coming up, but I think that the speed of the Junior A game will help me in this game.

4)         Is there anything else you are doing to prepare for the game?

A: Not really. I mean I’m just going to practice hard, hit the gym, and get some good rest and nutrition.

5)         What sorts of things are you hoping to showcase during the game?

A) My two-way game for sure. Maybe some PK and stuff like that too. I think I’d also like to show that I’m a good team guy and a good skater too.

Jason Kasdorf

1)         You were selected to be a part of Team West during the CJHL Prospects game. What was your reaction when you found out?

Answer: Really excited. I think it’s a great experience to be able to play in these kinds of games so I was really happy with it.

2)         You were also identified on the NHL Central Scouting "Players to Watch" list for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft...what do you think about that?

A: I’m excited about that too! I’m just happy that I’m getting noticed.

3)         The CJHL Prospects Game was created to showcase the top 40 NHL draft eligible players in the CJHL...does that add any pressure to perform well during the game?

A: I want to play my best no matter what.  But ya, it’s always in the back of your head knowing that you have to perform your best every single game because people are watching.

4)         What are you doing to prepare for the game?

A: Training hard, working hard during every practice and game. Just working my hardest and not letting up...that’s all I can do really.

5)         What sorts of things are you hoping to showcase during the game?

A: I want to play my best. I’m hoping that I stand out and that scouts notice me, but I’m definitely going to try my best and see what happens.

Shane Gingera

1)         You were selected to be a part of Team West during the CJHL Prospects game. What was your reaction when you found out?

Answer: I was very happy. It’s a tremendous honor to be selected for the Prospects game, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.

2)         The CJHL Prospects Game was created to showcase the top 40 NHL draft eligible players in the CJHL...does that add any pressure to perform well during the game?

A: Obviously it adds some pressure, but it’s an honor just to be selected in that group of people.

3)         What are you doing to prepare for the game?

A: Just eat right and sleep right, and prepare mentally and physically as well.

4)         What sorts of things are you hoping to showcase during the game?

A: Definitely my speed and agility, making smart plays and simple plays. I’ll hopefully get a few goals in there too.

5)         What are you expecting from the game?

A: I’d like to get a scholarship for somewhere in the States...a Div. 1 scholarship and to have teams looking at me...get some better exposure, I guess.
